Win2k server lockup after PCAnywhere install

A member's "bright idea" for fixing a Win2k Server lockup after a PCAnwhere install.

After installing PCAnywhere 10.0 on Windows 2000 Server, the console keyboard and mouse are inoperable at reboot. Any amount of registry hacking/uninstalling on the server remotely failed to get the keyboard/mouse to respond. Then I had a bright idea:

  • Run regedit from another server and change Win2k to auto logon as administrator.

  • Now connect a USB mouse that is automatically installed with plucg and play.

  • Now remove PCAnywhere with Add/Remove programs.

  • Remove USB mouse and reboot.

    Hey, presto it works.
