Understanding virtualization with Hyper-V

DATE: 14 Apr 2009

Microsoft Hyper-V is far more than a replacement for the company's previous virtualization solution, Virtual Server. The new product features an entirely different virtualization architecture designed for better and faster performance, and can support far more complex networking arrangements.

In this webcast, Microsoft MVP Greg Shields explains exactly what the release of Hyper-V means to the future (and present) of server virtualization, with details on how it differs from both Microsoft Virtual Server and VMware ESX. Those interested in deploying Hyper-V will also find information on the minimum requirements needed to support Hyper-V and a breakdown of the networking components of the hypervisor.

Other topics covered include:

  • The difference between paravirtualization and emulation
  • An "under the hood" look at Hyper-V's architecture
  • What admins need to know about the primary partition
  • Considerations for installing Hyper-V
