I've tried the Windows 2000 recovery tool as well as the repair option with no luck. I HATE when that happens! The recovery tool is barely adequate in my opinion. When confronted with really nasty startup problems I always pull out my secret weapon: ERD Commander 2000 from Winternals (www.winternals.com). ERD (Emergency Recovery Disk) is a real recovery console and has saved my fanny on multiple occasions. It'll take care of your machine.
