I truly hate asking you to step into the past, but my question concerns Exchange 5.0. Someday, we will upgrade, but not yet. We recently had to restore Exchange due to a hack. When we restored the mailboxes, etc., we ended up with some errors and could not install the SP2 file. I finally beat those problems, but I still cannot get the Message Transfer Agent (MTA) to start. Therefore, we cannot build 'lists' that work. I get no concise error, but 3051 is added to the log with no specifics. Any advice with this would be sorely appreciated.
I don't mind stepping into the past to help someone solve a problem. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of information here, so its hard to say what the specific issue might be.
If you have not already done so, have a look at Microsoft Knowledge Base article 163326 entitled XCON: How and Why to Run Mtacheck. This should help you get the MTA running again.
