Continual errors claim 'Page cannot be displayed'

Bernie: I keep getting "Page Cannot Be Displayed" I have Comcast cable and they said I probably have something blocking it such as a firewall. So I removed the firewall and it still happened. I also have Norton Antivirus and SpyWare Doctor. I removed SpyWware DR. I am at a loss because I cannot get into my bank acct (I pay my bills through it and balance my check book). I can get in to some sites but the ones I really need have the page cannot. I do not know what to do. Can you help me?
The first thing I would do is reinstall the spyware program and re-enable the firewall. Then, I would try to isolate the cause of the issue. Without getting too far in depth, you want to make sure that your PC can interact with the devices on your network. For example, open a command prompt and check that your PC has a valid IP address, and not the auto-config address that starts with 168. (Open a command prompt by clicking Start > Run and typing CMD. At the prompt type IPconfig /all) Write down your gateway address and DNS addresses. Again at the command prompt type PING and the address of your gateway. If you get a response, try pinging the DNS servers. If any of these fail, there is a communications failure between your PC and these points. I would also try browsing to a known Web site using its IP address and not the domain name. If this works, the problem exists in the DNS resolution, not on your PC.
