Farewell to Microsoft Mail

What has happened to Microsoft Mail? When I upgrade to Office 2003 or Office XP, Microsoft Mail is no longer supported. We have been using it for Internet mail forever and it has been great. Do I need to let it go and just set up a phone book with everyone's e-mail addresses in it, and manually set this phone book up on everyone's workstation?
Microsoft officially ended mainstream support for Microsoft Mail on Sept. 30, 2000 (See article). I'd suggest you use an Exchange server or similar to obtain the shared address list functionality you're looking for.
