How can I completely remove the server while bringing all the public and private data to the new ser

We have a small Windows 2000 network with two servers. The Exchange 2000 server is running on old hardware and we want to completely replace it. What are the steps to completely remove the server while bringing all the public and private data to the new server? Thank you.
Microsoft Knowledge Base article 297289, How to move Exchange 2000 to new hardware and keep the same server name, provides the steps necessary. If preserving the same server name is not important, you can simply introduce a new server into the Windows domain and Exchange organization. Then move the mailboxes and public folders to this new server, and decommission the old server at your convenience.
