How to demote a Windows 2000 DC without bringing down Exchange

I have Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 DC which I need to demote to a member server. I have other DC's with GC, but previous experience tells me demoting the DC with EXCH may bring down Exchange because it cannot contact the AD. Moving Exchange off this server to another is not an option. Any help would be greatly appreciated
After you have performed the demotion, there is a good chance things will come up OK without any problems. However, if you do encounter problems, you can use DSADiag to check and rediscover the AD topology used by Exchange 2000. This should enable Exchange to locate your other DC/GCs and continue operating as normal.
