How to modify the default return address

I installed the Active Directory Console from the Exchange 2003 CD, then ran "forest prep" and "domain prep." I then created a two-way trust and replicated. It seems that the Active Directory connector created a new SMTP default return address entry for all users. It left firstname.lastname@Exchange.com and added alias@Exchange.com, and made it the default return address. Is this common and is there a way to change this?
To modify the default policy's e-mail address, go to it's properties page and include the SMTP address under Exchange System manager -> Recipient Policies Container -> Recipient Default Policy.
