Placing a bridgehead in an external DMZ

Is there a problem with placing a bridgehead in an external DMZ? What are the advantages or disadvantages?
I can't in good conscience recommend you putting any of your Exchange servers in your Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The major risk here is that you would need to punch way too many holes in your firewall to allow RPC and relevant protocol ports through. The risks are far too great that your internal network will get compromised. I'd recommend placing all Exchange servers inside your corporate network and then either using Internet Security and Acceleration Server or other mechanisms to make Exchange data available to remote networks or the Internet, as the case may be.
