Sometimes all our users get logged off Instant Messenging and can't get back in. Why?

I need some help with Instant Messaging. It's seems that some users can login without any issues and some cannot. When the click the sign in button, a login screen appears asking for their credentials, and will not except what they type. Sometimes during the day, users will be logged off and cannot get back in. I have looked at all the setting for each user and they are all the same. All the users have the same home server and that server is registered in DNS. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The first thing I would check is DNS. Make sure DNS on the client is set properly. Then, check your IE proxy settings. Specifically, if you are using a proxy server, you need to do two things: 1. Bypass the proxy for local addresses. 2. Add all internal subnets to the IE Proxy Exception list (use the Advanced button under Proxy settings to do this). Then, try to log onto IM again. Also, you didn't say what clients these are, but if they are Windows 2000 or Windows XP, also try doing: ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns and see if that helps.
