‘Tis the season to be techy

Happy holidays everyone! It’s the season of giving, and in that spirit we’ve collected a few cool holiday-themed articles for Windows admins.

Take a look below, and we’ll get back to talking about new server management features and other serious business in the New Year.

  • What to buy a geek for the holidays
My colleague Beth Pariseau has posted her annual feature on the hottest goodies for your fellow techies. It’s definitely a must-read for holiday shoppers.
  • Best gizmos of the year
This is sort of the cousin to the article above. It’s a fun read if you want to hear about the toys IT pros thought were the coolest of 2009.

  • The season of IT giveaways
People get especially generous this time of year (I used to wait tables in college, and part of me still misses those holiday tips!). IT is no exception. There are lots of freebies and discounts to be had on everything from management software to hardware equipment.
  • Books to look for in 2010
OK, so these won’t be out until next year, but who says gift-giving can only happen in December? Check out this list of books for admins looking to bone up on their Windows I.Q. There is also a SQL Server edition for database pros out there.
  • No vacations for the data center
While many enterprise systems get a break during the holidays, not all are so lucky. This article is a little old, but I still think it’s an interesting piece on how some IT folks deal with the demands brought on by this time of year.

And in case you missed it, check out this month’s edition of The Windows Report. I take a quick look back at the year in Windows before taking a look ahead to 2010 with IT author and consultant Jonathan Hassell.
